HOW SCAN~LINK'S PASSIVE RFID DETECTION WORKS

Diagram of how the SCAN~LINK system works

SCAN~LINK keeps it simple. Groundworkers are tagged with passive RFID tags in their vests or hard hats, while equipment is outfitted with an antenna and in-cab display. Everything communicates wirelessly for fast, hassle-free installation on all equipment types. No extra bulk, no charging, and no maintenance.

Diagram labeling the different PPE SCAN~LINK offers

Our streamlined approach incorporates passive RFID tags directly into PPE that workers are already required to wear. This makes the Armour System effortless to adopt. No extra steps for workers and no additional gear to manage.

Diagram showing how the operator and ground worker are alerted

When a worker wearing tagged apparel enters the danger zone behind a machine, the operator is immediately alerted with both audio and visual prompts from the in-cab display unit. At the same time, an external alarm is activated to warn the groundworker, ensuring both parties are aware of the hazard.

Passive RFID Marker Tags can also be applied to fixed assets like generators, wellheads, or structures. Unlike other systems that detect objects indiscriminately or require daily checks, SCAN~LINK detects only what you choose. That means zero false alarms, less operator workload, and faster, safer responses to real threats.

INDUSTRIES WE SERVE

SCAN~LINK is deployed across various industries wherever heavy equipment and workers on foot share a worksite.

WHY PASSIVE RFID?

Passive RFID technology provides unique benefits for improving worker safety and preventing struck-by incidents around heavy equipment. Passive RFID tags require no batteries or maintenance and are designed to last 20+ years. It enables consistent and reliable detection of personnel in hazardous areas while generating actionable safety data and analytics. This helps identify high-risk areas, reveal operational trends, and support long-term improvements in jobsite safety performance.

IMPROVE SAFETY AND SUPPORT COMPLIANCE WITH DATA & TELEMATICS

SCAN~VUE™ automatically logs every detection event with timestamps and worker IDs, giving safety managers the audit-ready reports they need for regulatory compliance. Access heat maps, trend data, and incident history from any device.

Success is not in detections, but in driving the number of detections to zero because employee behavior has changed. By having the data, the health and safety team is able to make positive and permanent changes to the company’s safety culture.

FAQs

Find answers to common questions about struck-by incidents, what causes them, and how detection technology helps improve worker safety around heavy equipment.

  • What is proximity detection and how does it prevent jobsite accidents?

Proximity detection identifies when workers enter danger zones near heavy equipment and alerts operators before a struck-by accident occurs. SCAN~LINK's Armour System uses passive RFID to instantly detect tagged workers and trigger real-time alerts, giving operators and ground workers crucial time to react.

    Learn More About Proximity Detection
  • How does passive RFID safety technology work?

Passive RFID tags are worn by workers and require no batteries or charging. When a tagged worker comes within range of a SCAN~LINK Antenna (reader) on heavy equipment, the system instantly detects their presence and alerts the operator. The tags draw power directly from the Antenna's signal, keeping them reliable across tough industrial jobsite conditions including dust, extreme cold, and heavy vibration.

    Learn More About Passive RFID
  • Why choose passive RFID for worker safety?

Passive RFID requires no batteries, no charging, and virtually no maintenance. Tags are durable, low-cost, non-invasive, and easy to deploy across large crews. Every proximity detection event is logged automatically, giving your operation consistent, reliable safety data for reporting and compliance.

    LEARN MORE
  • Which industries benefit most from RFID proximity detection?

RFID proximity detection benefits any operation where heavy equipment and workers share the same space. Key industries include construction, oil and gas, mining, waste management, conveyor systems, and industrial operations. SCAN~LINK's Armour System is built for environments where crews work near excavators, loaders, haul trucks, and conveyor lines that lead to balers and shredders, helping prevent the struck-by and conveyor incidents.

  • How does proximity detection support regulatory compliance?

Every proximity detection event is automatically timestamped and logged, creating accurate audit trails with no manual effort. These safety records document worker detection events and operator alerts, giving you proof of proactive compliance measures. When a regulatory inspection arrives, your data is already organized and ready to present.

  • How do I get started with SCAN~LINK proximity detection?

Getting started is easy. Contact SCAN~LINK's safety specialists to request a quote or site assessment. Share details about your worksite, equipment, and safety concerns, and we'll recommend a SCAN~LINK configuration suited to your specific application.
